Register within 60–90 days of installation and you get the full 10-year (or in some cases 12-year) warranty. 2. Contractor Labor Warranty

Most manufacturer warranties require the system to be installed by a licensed HVAC contractor with a permit pulled. An unpermitted installation can void the entire parts warranty. Ask your contractor for the permit number before and after installation.
3. DIY Refrigerant Work
Attempting to add refrigerant without an EPA 608 certification, or topping off refrigerant without finding and repairing the leak, can void your warranty. Refrigerant work must be performed by a certified technician. Running a system with incorrect refrigerant charge causes compressor damage that manufacturers will attribute to improper maintenance.
4. Incorrect Refrigerant Type
Using the wrong refrigerant type — mixing R-410A into an R-32 system, or adding refrigerant to a system without knowing its type — voids the warranty immediately and damages the compressor. Only a licensed technician should charge refrigerant.
